Small Wheeled Cycles - Potterers Under 21's

It was at the end of the 20th Century that various Potterers began looking at folding cycles for ease of transportation. Probably the first purchased were Dahon Tailwinds, then perhaps a Dawes and a Helios. The first Brompton came in 1999 and soon many more were seen. Currently it is known that at least 12 Potterers own 14 Bromtpons (as two have two each!) - it is thought that there are 6 other folding bikes owned by club members: two Tailwinds, one Helios, one Phillips, one Bike Friday New World Tourist and one Bickerton. The latest acquisition being Bob Scott's apple green machine. The first Brompton meet came about as a joint one with the Fell Club and took place on 13th March 2004. Owing to various changes, a mere 5 Bromptons paraded at the Lord Whisky, the photocall being made using the Jim Catt Memorial seat there.

The second arranged meet came about on 9th April 2005 when, in clear sunshine, 5 Bromptons were ridden along Pett Bottom from Canterbury to Lyminge, where others met up so that the Lyminge Coffee Shop hosted a noisy group of 9 for an hour, before they vacated the premises to ride across the park towards the church for their photo call, making for a really enjoyable meet.

The April 2006 ride was reshaped to include all small wheeled cycles. The collective name is Potterers Under 21's (under 21" wheel, that is!) and replaces the former annual Brompton rides.
